What if your creative confidence….
What If Your Creative Confidence Doesn’t Look or Feel Like You Thought It Would?
We all ideas about what having creative confidence would mean for us.
That we would glide through our creative inspirations and turn them into art.
That we wouldn’t keep stumbling across creative blocks
That we would be able to fulfil and manifest our creative dreams and ambitions.
And we would do it all with ease and confidence.
Except what if your creative confidence does’t come in the guise of bravado or feeling like you can do anything. Some kind of powerhouse extrovert who never tires and is relentless and resilient and only stops when the goal is achieved.
What if creative confidence lies behind any emotion that you are feeling. That you can access it no matter how scared, anxious or unsure you are feeling. That there isn’t only one way confidence can feel. It can show up as shy and apprehensive and still take action. It can feel like a niggling doubt and still prompt you to take the next step.
What if this is the case? That you don’t need to wait for a specific set of creative confidence credentials to show up before you can make a move.
What if you trusted it is ever present and your changing landscape of mood does not get to dictate whether your creative confidence makes an appearance that day or not. It’s there behind every emotion and you get to utilise it no matter how you are feeling.
We have a mistaken assumption that it should always show up as an outspoke, self assured set of thoughts and emotions and we wait for it patiently. We are so sure that we will recognise it when it arrives. We will feel it, we will know when it is here.
It’s like have a photograph of someone you have never seen before that you are about to meet and looking into the crowd to look for any resemblance to the photograph you are holding.
We are like that with our creative confidence, we are so sure we know what it should look and feel like that we ignore the possibility that our assumptions are mistaken.
So contemplate the idea that just like the sun is still there behind every cloud, that your creative confidence remains ever present no matter what you are thinking or feeling. And that you do not need to be waiting to feel a specific way or have a specific thought before you can access it. It is ready to assist you in executing any idea you wish to and it is not so fickle that it only appears occasionally and leaves you stuck in the meantime.
It is kinder than that. It doesn’t disappear and it is always available to you, even when you are convinced it’s not. To learn this, you would need to be willing to drop all the expectations you have around what it has to look and feel like to you. And experiment with living as though it is always there irrespective of your current state of mind and see what your creative confidence then looks like and feels like to you.
